Relaxation supports World Mental Health Day

1 in 5 children are suffering from some sort of mental health issue and Relax Kids believes that regular relaxation can make a huge impact on children's lives and can help prevent anxiety and stress. Below are some stats from the ONS’ Child and Adolescent Mental Health Survey, 2004. Mental Disorders 9.6% or nearly 850, 000 children and young people aged between 5-16 years have a mental disorder 7.7% or nearly 340,000 children aged 5-10 years have a mental disorder 11.5% or about 510, 000 young people aged between 11-16 years have a mental disorder Anxiety 3.3% or about 290,000 children and young people have an anxiety disorder 2.2% or about 96,000 children have an anxiety disorder 4.4% or about 195,000 young people have an anxiety disorder Depression 0.9% or nearly 80, 000 children and young people are seriously depressed 0.2% or about 8,700 aged 5-10 year-olds are seriously depressed. 1.4% or about 62,000 aged 11-16 year-olds are seriously depressed. Here are some teen stats from YOUNG MINDS In an average secondary school of 1000 pupils: 100 have self harmed by the age of 16 100 will be suffering from mental health problems and experiencing significant stress 50 pupils will be seriously depressed 20 pupils will have obsessive compulsive disorder OCD 10 will have an eating disorder 5-10 are likely to attempt suicide The stats are worrying, but Relax Kids believes that regular relaxation can help improve young peoples mental health and help prevent disorders. Relax Kids offers classes supported by range of relaxation resources to help support children's mental and emotional health. Relax Kids CDs help children manage their stress and anxiety. Regular relaxation can also help relief depression as the body releases endorphins when it is in a relaxed state. Positive affirmations and self-talk found in the Relax Kids CDs also help develop children's self-esteem and confidence as they learn to think positively.
