Dance like No-ones Watching

If your kids are always grooving their socks off to the latest music-  it may be time to get them thinking about going to dance classes… or better still, have them make up their own!

I can remember being at home and making up all sorts of strange movements to the latest tape that was out, it was very liberating and self motivating. Some routines were better than others but I would always feel proud to show anyone my dance moves and got a real sense of achievements out of just showing my mum and dad.

With music at its most diverse – there are so many styles that your little ones can get into. Ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, Irish and ballroom are to name but a few.

Alternatively, involve your youngsters in music and movement sessions. Here at Relax Kids – we encourage children to interpret music and movement together in our classes, which really helps develop creativity and co-ordination.

Hold your own parties for your little ones with a dance theme – use musical bumps, musical chairs and the like to get them moving and keep them exercising in a fun way. (It’s a shame that Top of the Pops left us a while ago – that was always a great show to copy routines from and keep you exercising easily for half an hour!)

If you are worried about noise – have a “silent disco” where all of your kids wear MP3 players and headphones so they can choose their own music, dim the lights and away you go!

Have fun!
